The $1.3 billion marijuana industry in Colorado is tackling the $1.3 trillion national student debt crisis by using its tax revenue to help students pay for college. Pueblo County will be the first to use cannabis-funded college scholarships for education funding, money that once "fueled criminal empires."

With the pot-funded college scholarship program, every qualifying student in Pueblo County, Colorado would receive about $1,000 for college and would have to attend either Pueblo Community College or Colorado State University-Pueblo. Remaining funds would be doled out to students based on merit and need. According to the Pueblo County Commissioners office, "It is so critically important to make college affordable for our youth if we want to provide long-term economic opportunity to our community. Too many kids can’t afford to go to college, with this program we are taking cannabis tax revenue and using it to provide a brighter future in Pueblo."

A recent poll reveals that support for the legalization of marijuana is higher than ever, with 68 percent of Americans advocating its legalization and 88 percent in favor of medical cannabis use. Do you support the use of marijuana tax dollars to pay for college scholarship programs? Why or why not?
