Scholarship Description

Horticultural therapy enriches the lives of children, adults, and seniors living with mental and physical challenges. This scholarship was established in 1984 to honor Alice Wessels Burlingame, who in 1952 helped to develop the field of horticultural therapy as a profession. Mrs. Burlingame was a member of the WNF&GA Birmingham Branch, Michigan Division for over 30 years.

Scholarship Details

  • Award amount: Two scholarships at $1,000 each
  • Established in 1984 to honor Alice Wessels Burlingame
  • Supports students in horticultural therapy or related fields

Eligibility Criteria

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s or post-baccalaureate degree program in horticultural therapy, or a bachelor’s degree in horticulture with an emphasis or certificate in horticultural therapy
  • Demonstrate an interest in horticultural therapy
  • WNF&GA members and their immediate family are ineligible

Application Process

  1. Verify your eligibility for the scholarship
  2. Complete the scholarship application by the deadline: May 15th
  3. Submit necessary documentation demonstrating interest in horticultural therapy

This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a bachelor’s or post-baccalaureate degree program in horticultural therapy OR a bachelor’s degree program in horticulture with an emphasis on, or a certificate in, horticultural therapy. The applicant should demonstrate their interest in horticultural therapy.Note: WNF&GA members and their immediate family are not eligible to apply for or to receive scholarships from WNF&G.
