Scholarship Description

The Ofield Dukes Multicultural Student Award supports minority students studying journalism or public relations. Applicants must be journalism program, public relations studies or courses preparing for a career in public relations, be entering their junior year of undergraduate studies in the fall of year the scholarship is offered, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American, Alaskan Native or Pacific Islander ancestry.

Besides completing the application form, applicants must also submit a recommendation letter (no more than two pages, from a faculty member or adviser), at least one and not more than four additional letters of recommendation (from internship employers, educators or others who have been directly involved in their relevant activities; two pages maximum), and a one to two-page resume. Selection criteria include: academic achievement; writing skills; recommendation letters; examples of commitment to service and social responsibility (demonstrated by mentoring others or participating in community service activities) or specific examples of how the applicant has worked to make the world a more equitable place; and awards or honors received for academic or extracurricular achievements (can include high school and community awards).
