Alaska Scholarships
Scholarships have been helping students afford a college education for years. Understandably,
the demand for them is high, but so is the supply. In fact, just living in Alaska or attending an Alaska college
can make students eligible for scholarships. Scholarships.com can use one’s state

GEAR UP Alaska scholarship provides up to $7,000 each year for up to four years
of undergraduate study (up to $3,500 each year for half-time study). The federal
government funds the scholarships. They do not have to be paid back.
In Alaska, GEAR UP scholarships are available to students who have participated
in GEAR UP Programs in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and have met the academic milestones
established by their district.

The AlaskAdvantage Education Grant program was created by the Alaska legislature
to provide financial assistance to eligible Alaska students attending qualifying
postsecondary educational institutions in Alaska. The program was specifically designed
to set aside a portion of available grant funds as priority awards for applicants
enrolled in qualifying workforce shortage programs, and for applicants demonstrating
exceptional academic preparation for higher education (as documented by top quartile
SAT or ACT scores).

Applicants to the Elmendorf Officers' Spouses' Organization Scholarship must be
a graduating high school senior, the son or daughter of an active duty or retired
active duty military member and must live in the Anchorage area. The Anchorage area
is considered to be from Wasilla to Girdwood. This includes the student whose parents
are divorced. If the parent with whom the student lives with has married a military
member, who in turn has not legally adopted the student yet provides support and
has a military ID card, this student is also eligible. Rank is not a consideration.

Alaska high school students in the top ten percent of their graduating class at
the end of their junior year are eligible to receive the University of Alaska Scholars
award, which can be used towards all educational expenses at the University of Alaska.
The $11,000 scholarship is paid out in increments of $1,375 per semester for up
to eight semesters as long as recipients are enrolled full-time and maintain a GPA
of 2.5 or higher.
