American Foreign Service Association National High School Essay Contests
The American Foreign Service Association National High School Essay Contest is open
to all high school students whose parents are not in the United States Foreign Service.
The winner will receive $2500 and a trip to Washington, DC with three members of
their family. The winner’s school will also receive $500.
To be eligible for any AFSA Scholarship Program, students must be claimed as dependent
on the most recent IRS tax form by a US government Foreign Service employee (active,
retired with pension, deceased or separated) who has served or is serving at least
a year abroad with a foreign affairs agency as defined by the Foreign Service Act
of 1980 (Department of State, USAID, USIA, IBB, Commerce Service or Foreign Agriculture
Service).
Eligibility:
- Attend or will be attending full-time (12 credit hours or more) as an undergraduate
at a 2 or 4 year accredited college, university, community college, art school,
or conservatory (stateside or overseas).
- Maintain a satisfactory academic record (cumulative 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale).
- Complete his/her undergraduate degree in four years.
- Demonstrate financial need.
Maximum Amount: Awards range from $1,000 to $4,500.
