WGU Aspiring School Principals Scholarships

Western Governors University is pleased to offer the WGU Aspiring School Principals Scholarships. These scholarships are designed to help aspiring school principals attend college online to move into the leadership position of principal.

Who Should Apply
- Individuals interested in the M.S. in Educational Leadership

About the Scholarship
A WGU Aspiring Principals Scholarship is valued up to $2,000. The scholarship will be credited to your account at the rate of $500 per six-month term, renewable each year for up to a maximum of four terms. You will be required to reapply for the scholarship each year for renewal.
Multiple scholarships will be awarded. Each scholarship will be awarded based upon a candidate's academic record, readiness for online study, and current competency, plus other considerations. WGU's competency-based education approach makes it possible for students to accelerate their program, but the scholarship is based on a reasonable experience of two years to completion. The actual time to completion will depend on the incoming student's prior experience, academic background, and time commitment to study.

Eligibility Requirements
- Must possess a bachelor's degree and valid teaching license
- Must submit official transcripts of all prior college work
- Complete an application
- Satisfactorily complete the WGU Readiness Assessment
- Be officially admitted to WGU
- Interview with a WGU Scholarship Counselor prior to the award decision.

NOTE: This scholarship program is designed for new students only.
If you are selected to receive the scholarship, you will be required to read the WGU Student Handbook and agree to and understand the tuition and refund policies. You will also be required to sign a WGU Scholarship Agreement before monies are awarded.

Tuition for a six-month term is $2,790, less the $500 per term scholarship. (There is an additional fee for the in-school practicum requirement.) To maintain your eligibility to receive the scholarship monies, you must maintain a 100% Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) rating through the duration of your degree program. You will also be required to reapply for the scholarship at the end of the second six-month term of each year for renewal. If you have maintained the required eligibility, your scholarship will be renewed.

If you watched movies or shows like “Glee,” “10 Things I Hate About You” and “17 Again” and thought “That is nothing like high school,” the same goes for college when it’s portrayed on screen: I remember watching “Pitch Perfect” after my first month of college and thought, “College [...]

Becoming a Better Communicator

by Carly Gerber You may be thinking that the day you head off to college, you will be freed from listening to your parents’ opinions. Slow that ship before it hits the bridge: While it’s true you will become more independent at college, your parents (and their ideologies) still exist. For example, deciding the major you want to pursue is exciting but just as you have picked it, your [...]

by Mike Sheffey Large classes or small? As colleges look to save money per student, this has become a key discussion topic. Recent studies are now showing that redesigning the typical lecture-type lesson has proved successful in large class settings, boasting higher exam results than those on the old model...but I think it really depends on the institution. I can only speak from [...]
