ANS Robert A. Dannels Memorial Scholarship

Robert (Bob) A. Dannels is praised for both his personal and professional achievements. Despite being confined to a wheelchair since the age of 12, Bob studied physics at Carnegie Mellon University and joined Westinghouse in 1957. Initially he specialized in lattice physics, Monte Carlo computations and nuclear data. He later became Manager of Nuclear Safety Methods Development and served for two years as Director of Organization Development of the PWR Systems Division at Westinghouse. Bob was one of the first members of the Cross Section Evaluation Working Group at Brookhaven National Laboratory and served briefly as Director of the BNL National Neutron Cross Section Center. He was an ANS Fellow and past Chair of both the ANS Mathematics & Computation Division and the ANS Reactor Physics Division. Robert A. Dannels died in December 1981.

Applicants for the Robert A. Dannels Memorial Scholarship must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Students applying for this scholarship must be enrolled in a course of study relating to a degree in nuclear science or nuclear engineering in a U.S. institution and must be enrolled in a graduate-level course of study leading toward a degree in mathematics and computation.
