Communicate & Connect Scholarship

Share your English language learning story and enter for a chance to win a college scholarship. High school seniors that have learned English as a Second Language are invited to write an essay about how discovering the English language opened up a world of possibilities.

Sample topics for the Communicate & Connect Scholarship essay include:
- An essay about how learning English enabled you to excel in other courses such as mathematics or science.
- A personal memoir about how getting cast in a play because of your English-speaking abilities has awakened a desire to perform and to create.
- An examination of how learning English transformed your perspective of living life in the United States.

The story of your Communicate & Connect Scholarship essay is yours to share. It’s about how you reached out and made contact through language learning.

The winner will be selected by a panel of experts and awarded a $3000 scholarship to help pay for school – expanding his/her world even more!

The Contest is open to
» high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2009;
» who have learned English as a Second Language;
» who are full-time matriculated students in an accredited institution of high school education in the United States and the District of Columbia;
» who hold citizenship status or have official work or student visas and have not yet graduated from high school or are registered as a home school student and can provide the appropriate documentation to verify this status: and
» who are planning to enroll in a U.S. Department of Education accredited college or career school (“Accredited Institution”).
» Parents of disabled full time students who otherwise meet eligibility requirements may enter on behalf of the student. Each entry must include the name of a faculty or staff mentor from the contestant's/contestants' institution or the name of a home school parent on the entry form for verification purposes.
